We developed BundesMessenger according to a clear compass of values – as a tool for a future-proof, sovereign administration.

Open interfaces, open-source software and a transparent governance model ensure that trust is not just promised, but practiced in a verifiable way.

And because BundesMessenger is meant to make communication easy, we did not trade security for usability during development. Interface, operation and feature set match modern messengers. Chat as usual – but securely.

As the Bundeswehr’s primary digitalization partner and IT service provider to the federal government, we not only understand the special data protection requirements – we also implement them.

Since 2006, we have been working for the Bundeswehr and other government customers on secure and reliable IT solutions.

More than 7,700 employees develop and operate secure infrastructures, platforms and applications – from the nationwide fiber-optic network to modern data centers and cloud, through to solutions for efficient digital work.

The history of BundesMessenger

2019
BundesMessenger BWI is commissioned to develop a “secure WhatsApp for soldiers” – the birth of BwMessenger.
2021
BundesMessenger The Federal Ministry of Defence and the Federal Ministry of the Interior decide to make the Bundeswehr’s messenger available to other public organizations as well. This marks the start of BundesMessenger.
2023
BundesMessenger BWI publishes the first release of BundesMessenger – free to use for public administration. More and more authorities opt for it.
2024
BundesMessenger BundesMessenger goes into productive use and T-Systems becomes BWI’s operating and sales partner, offering BundesMessenger as software as a service.
2025 und weiter
BundesMessenger BundesMessenger is set to become the standard for messaging and collaboration in public administration – for municipalities, federal states and federal authorities throughout Germany.
